Bible Verses about 'Speech'

Eloquent words are not fitting for a fool; even less are lies fitting for a ruler.Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool— how much worse lying lips to a ruler!
Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech.Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech. To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants.Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.
Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.
For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.”
Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed.Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
