The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces.The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.
Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others.
Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.
The rich can pay a ransom for their lives, but the poor won’t even get threatened.A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.
People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.
I will strengthen Judah and save Israel; I will restore them because of my compassion. It will be as though I had never rejected them, for I am the Lord their God, who will hear their cries.I will strengthen Judah and save the tribes of Joseph.
