Oh, that they would have fear of me in their hearts and they would observe all of my commandments always. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified of them, for the Lord, your God, is going forth with you. Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them. | Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. |
In other words, God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, and not holding people’s transgressions against them, and he committed to us the message of reconciliation. | Namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their wrongdoings against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. |
