| For You light my lamp; The Lord my God illumines my darkness. | You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. |
| Now no one lights a lamp and covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand so that those who come in may see the light. | No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. |

| Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. | Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. |
| Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he? | Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. |
| And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. | Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. |

| Or can a person walk on hot coals And his feet not be scorched? | Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? |
| An excellent wife, who can find her? For her worth is far above jewels. | A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. |
| Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. | Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. |
| How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. | How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. |
