Let your light shine (4/4)

Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.
So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. So then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober.
Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants. My doctrine will drop as the rain. My speech will condense as the dew, as the misty rain on the tender grass, as the showers on the herb.
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.
And do everything with love.Let all that you do be done in love.
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.Let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.
You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God; for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.
Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.”Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them.”
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world.Sing to Yahweh, for he has done excellent things! Let this be known in all the earth!
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”God said, “Let’s make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.Let’s therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.Having therefore these promises, beloved, let’s cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established.
But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice; only if you stop exploiting foreigners, orphans, and widows; only if you stop your murdering; and only if you stop harming yourselves by worshiping idols. Then I will let you stay in this land that I gave to your ancestors to keep forever. For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor; if you don’t oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don’t shed innocent blood in this place, and don’t walk after other gods to your own hurt, then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even forever more.
Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.”Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!”Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!”
For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”For, “He who would love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it.”
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.
