Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. Nothing would be impossible.”
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.
A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.Evil people get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower.Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field.
