| This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. | My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. |
| And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. | Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. |

| For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. | God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. |

| For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. | For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. |
| My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. | Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. |
| With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love. | Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. |
| Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. | Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. |

| But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. | But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. |

| For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. | For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. |
| And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. | Rend your heart and not your garments. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. |
| Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. | Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. |
