Hear my prayer, Yahweh, and give ear to my cry. Don’t be silent at my tears. For I am a stranger with you, a foreigner, as all my fathers were. | Hear my prayer, O Lord! Listen to my cries for help! Don’t ignore my tears. For I am your guest— a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me. |
I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart. | I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart. |
|
My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine. | My child, if your heart is wise, my own heart will rejoice! |
I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes. You will keep my ordinances and do them. | And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. |
My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my expectation is from him. | Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. |
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him. | Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. |
Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you. | You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. |
I cried to him with my mouth. He was extolled with my tongue. | For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. |
I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn’t hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah. | Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. |
Yahweh is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? | The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? |
You shall keep my Sabbaths, and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am Yahweh. | You must keep my Sabbath days of rest and show reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord. |
When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. | When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. |
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. | When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. |
Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul. | But God is my helper. The Lord keeps me alive! |
“Yahweh is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.” | I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” |
But you, Yahweh, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head. | But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. |
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” says Yahweh. | “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” |
In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples. | When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. |
If you love me, keep my commandments. | If you love me, obey my commandments. |
For you are my rock and my fortress, therefore for your name’s sake lead me and guide me. | You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. |
In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul. | When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. |
I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth. | I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! |
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God. | Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! |
Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many. | My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life. |
I spread out my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land. Selah. | I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain. |
