It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. | This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you—not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. |
| The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. | Yahweh’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. Yahweh’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple. |
| Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. | And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. |
