Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”

So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.
It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.It is a snare for one to say rashly, “It is holy,” and begin to reflect only after making a vow.
Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine. Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples. Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.”Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshiped. If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments, and do them, then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. If you follow my statutes and keep my commandments and observe them faithfully, I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
