| Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. | Let those who are wise understand these words, and let the prudent acknowledge them. | Everyone who seeks a prize submits himself to rigorous self-discipline in every respect. They do so to win a perishable crown, while we seek an imperishable one. | Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. |
| Out of the same mouth flow blessings and curses. This should not be so, my brethren. | From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. |

| Whatever moves and has life will be used for your food. I give you all these things, just as I have already given you every green plant. I, the Lord, search the heart and probe the mind to reward all according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve. | The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.” |
| And God is able to enrich you with an abundance of every grace, so that, with all of your needs provided for, you may be able to produce a surplus of good works. | And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. |
| Whatever you ask for in faith-filled prayer, you will receive. | And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith. |

| And just as no human being comprehends any person’s innermost being except the person’s own spirit within him, so also no one comprehends what pertains to God except the Spirit of God. | For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. |
| Oh, that they would have fear of me in their hearts and they would observe all of my commandments always. Then things would go well with them and their children forever. | Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever! |
