| Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain. | Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. |
| So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart. | Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. |
| Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. | I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. |
| And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ | A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ |
| For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek me and live. | Now this is what the Lord says to the family of Israel: “Come back to me and live!” |

You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.” |
| Then I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah | Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. |
| His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. | By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. |
| Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. | Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” |
| Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal. | But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval. |
| He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” | Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.” |
| Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. | But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. |
| The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry. | The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. |
| The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers. | The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. |
| The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. | The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand. |
| Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. | Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. |
| O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. | Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. |
| So that by God's will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company. | Then, by the will of God, I will be able to come to you with a joyful heart, and we will be an encouragement to each other. |
| Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. | Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world. |
| O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. | Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. |
| The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. | The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. |
| And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.” | And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.” |
| Jesus said to him, “If you are able!—All things can be done for the one who believes.” | “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” |
| And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. | And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. |
| May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace! | The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace. |
