Bible Verses about Greed
He who loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity. | One who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor one who loves abundance with its income. This too is futility. |
But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. | But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. |
He said to them, “Beware! For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal. | Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal. |
There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don’t withhold. | All day long he is craving, While the righteous gives and does not hold back. |
Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow. | Wealth obtained from nothing dwindles, But one who gathers by labor increases it. |
As he came out of his mother’s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand. | As he came naked from his mother’s womb, so he will return as he came. Don’t weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint. | Do not weary yourself to gain wealth; Stop dwelling on it. |

Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom. | Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. |
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s. | You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male slave, or his female slave, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. |
But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints. | But sexual immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints. |
For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing. | For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. |
