But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?If anyone is rich in worldly possessions and sees a brother in need but refuses to open his heart, how can the love of God abide in him?
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.No one can serve two masters. When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?When riches increase, so do those who are eager to accumulate them, and those who have accumulated them must remain content simply to feast their eyes on them.
Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from a man's envy of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.Then I came to realize that all toil and skill in work derive from one person’s envy of another. This also is vanity and a chase after the wind.
And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”He said to them in reply, “Anyone who has two coats must share with the person who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”
The ransom of a man's life is his wealth, but a poor man hears no threat.A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, nor his oxen, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.
But when they had grazed, they became full, they were filled, and their heart was lifted up; therefore they forgot me.When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud of heart and quickly forgot me.
