| Não abandones o teu amigo, nem o amigo de teu pai, nem entres na casa de teu irmão no dia da tua adversidade; melhor é o vizinho perto do que o irmão longe. | Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off. |
| O avisado vê o mal e esconde-se; mas os simples passam e sofrem a pena. | A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. |
