If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. | Rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer. |
Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. | For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. |
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up. | Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad. |
What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, ‘Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim, ‘How clumsy can you be?’ | Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker— A piece of pottery among the other earthenware pottery pieces! Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’ Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’? |
One should be kind to a fainting friend, but you accuse me without any fear of the Almighty. | For the despairing man there should be kindness from his friend; So that he does not abandon the fear of the Almighty. |
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. | When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comfort delights my soul. |
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. | The Lord’s acts of mercy indeed do not end, For His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. |
