So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. | So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. |
Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. | When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. |
For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? | For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? |
Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. | So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. |
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. | Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. |
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. | Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. |
Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. | Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. |
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. | Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. |
But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. | And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. |
The Lord makes some poor and others rich; he brings some down and lifts others up. | The Lord makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and he exalts. |
We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. | For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. |
We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. | Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. |

People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart. | Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart. |
He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. | Guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. |
