Candle (2/4)

Where can I go to hide from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I take my rest in the netherworld, you are also there.I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.
This saying can be trusted: If we have died with him, we shall also live with him. This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him.
And opens the eyes of those who cannot see. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly.
But the Almighty we cannot find; he is unequaled in power and judgment, and in his righteousness he will not violate justice. We cannot imagine the power of the Almighty; but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us.
In that way, I can come to you in joy, if God so wills, and be refreshed together with you. Then, by the will of God, I will be able to come to you with a joyful heart, and we will be an encouragement to each other.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I place my trust and know no fear; what can people do to me?I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
While experiencing temptation, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.
Do you suppose that I cannot appeal to my Father for help and he will not immediately send me more than twelve legions of angels?Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly?
Jesus replied, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.”Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
Great is the Lord and worthy of the highest praise; no one can even begin to comprehend his greatness.Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.
For the entire Law can be summed up in a single commandment: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Can anyone withhold the water of baptism from these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?
Jesus said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.”
For our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal. So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
And thus we can have confidence in him that if we ask anything that is in accordance with his will, he hears us.And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.
For much wisdom can result in much sorrow, and those who increase their knowledge also increase their grief. The greater my wisdom, the greater my grief. To increase knowledge only increases sorrow.
This is how we can be certain that we abide in him and that he abides in us: he has given us a share in his Spirit. And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.
There is no salvation in anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to men by which we can be saved. There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing.Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
For no one can be regarded as justified in the sight of God by keeping the Law. The Law brings only the consciousness of sin.For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
If someone says, “I love God,” but at the same time hates his brother, he is a liar. For whoever does not love the brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?
He did not spare his own Son but gave him up for all of us. How then can he fail also to give us everything else along with him?Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?
What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his very life? Or what can he give in exchange for his life? And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
And where a single man can be overcome, two together will be able to resist. A cord with three strands is not easily broken.A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out. If we have food and clothing, let us be content with these. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

They are in conflict with one another, so that you cannot do what you want. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
