Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.
But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, ‘By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne. And do not say, ‘By the earth!’ because the earth is his footstool.
