Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering. | As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. |
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. | Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not believe in the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him. |
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. | Through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves in Christ. |
And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. | I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. |
And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. | As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit descended upon them just as it had upon us at the beginning. |
Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. | So today acknowledge it and take it to heart that the Lord is God in the heavens above and on the earth below. There is no other. |
He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. | Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. |
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. | You are the light of the world. A city built upon a mountain cannot be hidden. |
And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. | Then it will come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. |
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? | With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid. What can mortals do to me? |
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. | Stand firm, then, with the belt of truth fastened around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness clothing you, and with your feet shod in zeal to proclaim the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, hold in your hand the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. |
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. | In love there is no fear; indeed, perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not yet achieved perfection in love. |
The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills. | The Lord God is my strength; he makes my feet as swift as those of a deer and enables me to tread on the heights. |
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. | Therefore, let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ and advance toward maturity. We must not be forever laying the foundation: repentance for actions that lead to death, faith in God, instruction about baptisms and the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. |
But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. | As for me, I do not regard my life as of any value, only that I finish the race and complete the mission that I received from the Lord Jesus—to bear witness to the gospel of God’s grace. |
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. | The Lord is near to all who call out to him, to all who call out to him sincerely. |
For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? | Indeed, who is God except the Lord? Who is the Rock besides our God? |
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. | Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. |
Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew, As raindrops on the tender herb, And as showers on the grass. | Let my teaching fall down like rain, and my words descend like the dew. Like rain upon the sprouts, and like showers upon the grass. |
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! | Place your hope in the Lord: be strong and courageous in your heart, and place your hope in the Lord. |
For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? | For who is God except the Lord? Who is a rock aside from our God? |
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. | Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. |
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. | Therefore, my beloved brethren, stand firm and immovable, devoting yourselves completely to the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. |

And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord. | And now, what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized, and have your sins washed away, calling on his name. |
