A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son gives grief to his mother.
For in much wisdom is much grief; and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. For much wisdom can result in much sorrow, and those who increase their knowledge also increase their grief.
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death.Such godly sorrow results in repentance that leads to salvation and causes no regret, whereas worldly sorrow produces death.
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering and acquainted with disease. He was despised as one from whom men hide their face; and we didn’t respect him.He was despised and shunned by others, a man of sorrows who was no stranger to suffering. Tear your heart and not your garments, and turn to Yahweh, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity.Rend your hearts and not your garments, and turn back to the Lord, your God. For he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and always prepared to relent from punishing.
Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.”Then Job arose, tore his cloak, and shaved his head. He threw himself prostrate on the ground and said: “Naked I emerged from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. The love of money is the root of all evils, and in their desire for it some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many serious wounds.
