In God, whose word I praise, in God I place my trust and know no fear; what can people do to me? | In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? |
Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? | Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? |
What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us? | What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
Who can find a worthy wife? She is far more precious than pearls. | An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. |
Jesus answered, “If it is possible! All things are possible for one who has faith.” | And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” |

If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I take my rest in the netherworld, you are also there. | Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! |

The heart is more deceitful than any other thing, and it is also perverse. Who can uncover its secrets? I, the Lord, search the heart and probe the mind to reward all according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve. | The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.” |

For the carved images of the nations are powerless; they are nothing more than wood cut from a forest, fashioned with a knife by craftsmen and embellished with silver and gold. Then they are fastened with hammers and nails to prevent them from toppling. Like scarecrows in a cucumber field they are unable to speak, and they must be carried from place to place since they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they can do no harm, nor do they have any power to do good. | For the customs of the peoples are vanity. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good. |
