Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.Charge those who are rich in this present age that they not be arrogant, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
Pay to all what is due them—taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due. Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to make this freewill offering? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and we have given you of your own.
No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other.
