Money (2/2)

Riches don’t profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.Riches won’t help on the day of judgment, but right living can save you from death.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination. The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.Tainted wealth has no lasting value, but right living can save your life.
I know how to be humbled, and I also know how to abound. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need.I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God.
I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies, as much as in all riches.I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches.
Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all! In your hand is power and might! It is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all!Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.
Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh.Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the Lord can give an understanding wife.
Yahweh makes poor and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.The Lord makes some poor and others rich; he brings some down and lifts others up.
Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues with injustice.Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest.
Turn my heart toward your statutes, not toward selfish gain.Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land? While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”
As sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing all things. Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.
Yahweh restored Job’s prosperity when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before. When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!
It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends. He will maintain his cause in judgment.Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.
When goods increase, those who eat them are increased; and what advantage is there to its owner, except to feast on them with his eyes? The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!
The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously. The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.
Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position; and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field.
What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced.
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats. The rich can pay a ransom for their lives, but the poor won’t even get threatened.
You shall most certainly not make gods of silver or gods of gold for yourselves to be alongside me.Remember, you must not make any idols of silver or gold to rival me.
