| For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. | For the customs of the peoples are vanity. | As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. | So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. |
| Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. | Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. |

| See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. | See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. |
