You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. | You have already been cleansed by the word I have spoken to you. |
You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it. | You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him. |

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. | Then, after he had spoken to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven, and there he took his place at the right hand of God. |
God is not a human being, that he should lie, or a mortal, that he should change his mind. Has he promised, and will he not do it? Has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? | God is not human, that he should lie, or the son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act, does he promise and then not fulfill it? |
I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. | I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. |
Words spoken by the wise bring them favor, but the lips of fools consume them. | The words of a wise man win favor, but a fool’s tongue is his undoing. |
All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.” | All this took place in order to fulfill what the Lord had announced through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and give birth to a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” a name that means “God is with us.” |
Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops. | Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops. |
If you refrain from trampling the sabbath, from pursuing your own interests on my holy day; if you call the sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, serving your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs; then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of your ancestor Jacob, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. | If you refrain from traveling on the Sabbath and from engaging in your own interests on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a day of joy and regard the Lord’s holy day as honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way, serving your own interests, or attending to your own affairs; then you will find true happiness in the Lord, and I will enable you to ride upon the heights of the earth. I will nourish you with the heritage of your father Jacob, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. |
For nothing will be impossible with God. | For nothing will be impossible for God. |
To make an apt answer is a joy to anyone, and a word in season, how good it is! | A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season. |
Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. | Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you as you claim he is. |
When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. | After he said this, he was lifted up as they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight. |
I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world! | I have told you this so that in me you may be in peace. In the world you will endure suffering. But take courage! I have overcome the world. |
Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: None of my words will be delayed any longer, but the word that I speak will be fulfilled, says the Lord God. | Therefore say to them, “Thus says the Lord God: The fulfillment of my words will not be delayed any longer. What I have said will be done now. This is the word of the Lord God.” |
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but the prudent are restrained in speech. | Where many words are spoken, sin is not absent, but whoever restrains his tongue is prudent. |
I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter. | I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to render an account for every careless word they utter. |
No weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, says the Lord. | No weapon used against you will prevail, and you will refute every accusation that is raised in court against you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, their vindication from me, says the Lord. |
Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another. | Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render fair judgments, and show kindness and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor. Do not plot evil in your heart against one another. |
