If you refrain from traveling on the Sabbath and from engaging in your own interests on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a day of joy and regard the Lord’s holy day as honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way, serving your own interests, or attending to your own affairs; then you will find true happiness in the Lord, and I will enable you to ride upon the heights of the earth. I will nourish you with the heritage of your father Jacob, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. | If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. |
Have mercy on me, O God, in accord with your kindness; in your abundant compassion wipe away my offenses. Wash me completely from my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin. | Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. |

When you look at the tassels, you will remember the commandments of the Lord and keep them. Thus you will not prostitute yourselves by following after the lusts in your own heart or your own eyes. | And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring. |
Nor would someone light a lamp and then put it under a basket; rather, it is placed upon a lampstand so that it may afford light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine so that it can be seen by others; this will enable them to observe your good works and give praise to your Father in heaven. | Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. |
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those who trust in his kindness. | Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy. |
There is only one thing I ask of the Lord, just one thing I seek: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, so that I may enjoy the beauty of the Lord and gaze on his temple. | One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. |
Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? | Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? |
In God alone is my soul at rest; it is from him that my salvation comes. | Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. |
In God alone be at rest, O my soul; it is from him that my hope comes. | My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. |
Indeed, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” | For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. |
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry. | The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. |
In my distress I called out to the Lord; he answered by setting me free. | I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place. |
Blessings are showered on the head of the righteous, but sorrow will cover the face of the wicked. | Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. |
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and barren, and darkness covered the abyss while the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. | In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. |
Rejoice with all your heart, O daughter Zion. Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem. See, your king is coming to you, triumphant and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. | Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. |
If you are angry, do not sin. Do not let the sun set on your anger, and do not give the devil an opening. | Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. |
Entrust your cares to the Lord, and he will uphold you; he will never allow the righteous to waver. | Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. |
