| And walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. | And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a sacrificial offering whose fragrance is pleasing to God. |

| For one will hardly die for a righteous person; though perhaps for the good person someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. | Indeed, it is seldom that anyone will die for a just person, although perhaps for a good person someone might be willing to die. Thus, God proved his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. |
| This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. | And thus we can have confidence in him that if we ask anything that is in accordance with his will, he hears us. |
| In the exercise of His will He gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures. | By his own choice he gave us birth through the way of truth so that we may be a kind of firstfruits of all his creation. |
