He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.”Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
It will not be so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave.Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.

For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.

Adulterers! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it?Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want.For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
