Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. | Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. |
The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. | The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. |
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. | But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. |
God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor? | There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? |
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. | He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. |
He will judge everyone according to what they have done. | Who “will render to each one according to his deeds” |
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. | The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound. |
How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver! | How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. |
Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. | Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. |
Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. | Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! |
But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul. | But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul. |
“Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.” | Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again. |
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness. | Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth. |
No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. | He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? |
Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. | Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. |
Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God and only later counting the cost. | It is a snare for a man to devote rashly something as holy, And afterward to reconsider his vows. |
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath! | I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. |
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. | Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. |
And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. | As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God. |
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him. | If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! |
Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. | Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so. |
Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. | “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. |
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. | And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. |
Unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done. | Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; For You render to each one according to his work. |
I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. | I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. |
