| Be doers of the word and not just hearers who only deceive themselves. | But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. |
| Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you. | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. |
| The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but worldly cares and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. | What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. |
| You need to be steadfast if you want to do the will of God and receive what he has promised. | For you need endurance so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise. |
| The time of fulfillment has arrived, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. | And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and God’s Kingdom is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News.” |
| I do not set aside the grace of God, for if justification comes through the Law, then Christ died for nothing. | I don’t reject the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing! |

| But as for you, man of God, you must shun all this. Rather, pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, fortitude, and gentleness. | But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. |
| By his own choice he gave us birth through the way of truth so that we may be a kind of firstfruits of all his creation. | Of his own will he gave birth to us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. |
| A word is not even on my tongue and you, O Lord, are completely aware of it. | For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether. |
| May the Lord guide your hearts to the love of God and the steadfastness of Christ. | May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and into the perseverance of Christ. |
