He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.
He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside.
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy.But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.Keep the commandments and keep your life; despising them leads to death.
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!
And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands.
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Who will render to every man according to his deeds.He will judge everyone according to what they have done.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord, but he offers his friendship to the godly.
Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.You must diligently obey the commands of the Lord your God—all the laws and decrees he has given you.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
