Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. | My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth. |
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. | All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made. |
Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” | Jesus therefore said to them again, “Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” |
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. | The testimony is this: that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. |
This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. | In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples. |
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. | Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God. |
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. | He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’t have God’s Son doesn’t have the life. |
For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. | For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. |
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. | By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. |
Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” | Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?” |
Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. | Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? |
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. | Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. |
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. | I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full. |
And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. | This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother. |
When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. | When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment. |
Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me.” | Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.” |
The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. | The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever. |
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever. | I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever. |
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. | If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. |
No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. | Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also. |
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. | I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one. |
If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. | If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him. |
