| Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. | My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. |
| Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall. | Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the Lord are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein. |
| So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. | Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. |
| Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants. | My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass. |
| So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. | This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. |
| And do everything with love. | Let all your things be done with charity. |
| Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. | Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) |
| You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. | Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. |
| Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.” | Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. |
| Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. | For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. |
| And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. | And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. |
| Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world. | Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. |
| Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” | And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. |
| So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. | Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. |
| Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. | Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. |
| In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. | Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. |
| Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. | The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” | And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. |
| Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. | Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. |
| Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. | Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. |
| But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice; only if you stop exploiting foreigners, orphans, and widows; only if you stop your murdering; and only if you stop harming yourselves by worshiping idols. Then I will let you stay in this land that I gave to your ancestors to keep forever. | For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour; If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever. |

| So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. | Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. |
