Right and wrong (3/4)

Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
A person finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word!Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong.
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone. And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good?
Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.
Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger.Seek the Lord, all who are humble, and follow his commands. Seek to do what is right and to live humbly. Perhaps even yet the Lord will protect you— protect you from his anger on that day of destruction.
See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright— but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness.Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.
But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.
What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”
Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, ‘Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim, ‘How clumsy can you be?’
And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness. For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us.
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.
Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

Bible verse of the day

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
