Right and wrong (4/4)

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry.
So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.So that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing. We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.
But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good?Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?
For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
But God has protected me right up to this present time so I can testify to everyone, from the least to the greatest. I teach nothing except what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and be the first to rise from the dead, and in this way announce God’s light to Jews and Gentiles alike. But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.
God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor? There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.
Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest.Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
In the night I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek you. For only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right. My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!
For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright— but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness.
“All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence. The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
