| Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. | Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” |
| Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. | However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. |

| Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. | Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. |
| Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. | Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? | Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. |
| And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. | If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. |

| I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. | My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. |
| But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. | May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. |
| Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. | Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me. |
| What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. | What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! |
