| Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit. | Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers. |
| But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul. | Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. |
| To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper. | He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good. |
| Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! | Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God. |
| And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good. | Now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God require of you, but to fear Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul, to keep Yahweh’s commandments and statutes, which I command you today for your good? |
| Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you. | Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you. |
| Lord, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name. | Yes, in the way of your judgments, Yahweh, we have waited for you. Your name and your renown are the desire of our soul. |
| In the night I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek you. For only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right. | With my soul I have desired you in the night. Yes, with my spirit within me I will seek you earnestly; for when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. |
| Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. | Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith. |
| Rescue me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people. | Deliver my soul, Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. |
| All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. | The multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. |
| The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. | The liberal soul shall be made fat. He who waters shall be watered also himself. |
| I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” | My soul, you have said to Yahweh, “You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing.” |
| Keep the commandments and keep your life; despising them leads to death. | He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die. |
| But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. | Yahweh redeems the soul of his servants. None of those who take refuge in him shall be condemned. |
| I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels. | I will greatly rejoice in Yahweh! My soul will be joyful in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation. He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. |
| But God is my helper. The Lord keeps me alive! | Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul. |
| You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. | For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. |
| Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. | Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. |
| The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. | Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more. |
| And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law. | And to love him with all the heart, with all the understanding, all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. |
| In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. | This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. |
| Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything. | He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. |
| Soon I will die, going the way of everything on earth. Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed! | Behold, today I am going the way of all the earth. You know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Yahweh your God spoke concerning you. All have happened to you. Not one thing has failed of it. |
| Suppose you sin by violating one of the Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin. | If anyone sins, doing any of the things which Yahweh has commanded not to be done, though he didn’t know it, he is still guilty, and shall bear his iniquity. |
