Wisdom to help (2/4)

  • I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know him.
  • Because I delivered the poor who appealed for help
    and the orphan who had no one to protect him.
    The blessing of the wretched was given to me,
    and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
  • In my anguish I cried out to the Lord
    and called to my God for help.
    From his temple he heard my voice,
    and my cry to him reached his ears.
  • The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
    those who are guided by it will grow in understanding.
    His praise will last forever.
  • All this knowledge comes from the Lord of hosts
    whose counsel is wonderful
    and whose wisdom is great.
  • Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of your opportunity. Let your speech always be gracious and seasoned with wisdom, so that you will know how to respond properly to all.
  • Who among you is wise and understanding? Prove by your good life that your works are done with the humility that comes from wisdom.
  • Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unfathomable his ways!
  • The law of the Lord is perfect,
    affording refreshment to the soul.
    The decree of the Lord is worthy of trust,
    imparting wisdom to the simple.
  • Do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be afraid, for I am your God.
    I will strengthen you and give you help,
    I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
  • To you, O God of my fathers,
    I offer thanks and praise
    because you have given me wisdom and power.
    Now you have made known to me
    what we asked of you;
    you have revealed to us the king’s dream.
  • Let the word of Christ with all its richness dwell in you. Teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God with gratitude in your hearts.
  • However, the wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, and considerate, full of mercy and good fruits, without any trace of partiality or hypocrisy.
  • Do you suppose that I cannot appeal to my Father for help and he will not immediately send me more than twelve legions of angels?
  • For I know that through your prayers and with the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will result in deliverance for me.
  • In peace I lie down and sleep,
    for only with your help, O Lord,
    can I rest secure.
  • But I have had help from God to this very day, and I stand here and testify to both the lowly and the great. I assert nothing more than what the Prophets and Moses said would occur: that the Christ must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light to the people and to the Gentiles.
  • Do not pride yourself on your own wisdom;
    fear the Lord and turn your back on evil.
    This will provide healing for your flesh
    and restore strength to your body.
  • Do not assert that the past was better than the present,
    for such a statement is not a sign of wisdom.
  • You shall not oppress the widow or the orphan. If you mistreat them and they cry out to me for help, I will surely hear their cry, and my fury will burn and I will put you to death by the sword. Your wives will be widows and your children will be orphans.
  • Do not wear yourself out in the pursuit of wealth,
    and cease even to think about it.
  • For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but rather a spirit of power and of love and of wisdom.
  • Why are you so disheartened, O my soul?
    Why do you sigh within me?
    Place your hope in God;
    for I will once again praise him,
    my Savior and my God.
  • You have given me the shield of your salvation;
    your right hand sustains me,
    and your goodness makes me great.
    You broadened the path beneath me
    so that my feet have never stumbled.
  • And I will ask the Father,
    and he will give you another Advocate
    to be with you forever.

Do not withhold kindness from anyone to whom it is due
when it is in your power to grant it.
