Bible Verses about Desires

Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
You want something and do not have it; so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it; so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have, because you do not ask.You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
And the world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live forever. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
Or can one walk on hot coals without scorching the feet? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?
But because of cases of sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I look upon a virgin?I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.
Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour.Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
For all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God.As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.
Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
No one, when tempted, should say, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself tempts no one. When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone.
In the path of your judgments, O Lord, we wait for you; your name and your renown are the soul's desire.Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.
Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature.Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. When your eyes light upon it, it is gone; for suddenly it takes wings to itself, flying like an eagle toward heaven.Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted.Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
What then should we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
