| See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! | Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. | Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. |
| Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. | Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him. |
| The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. | All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us. |
