The wealthy man lords it over the poor, and the borrower becomes the slave of the lender. | The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender. |
A cheerful heart is excellent medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. | A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. |
The Lord abhors lying lips, but he delights in those who are truthful. | Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight. |
Plans miscarry when counsel is lacking, but they succeed when there are many counselors. | Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established. |
A man’s attraction is his kindness; it is far better to be poor than to be a liar. | What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar. |
