| I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations. I will sing praises to you among the peoples. | I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. |
| It shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. Whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant. | Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave. |

| But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints. | But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. |

| Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. | Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. |
| And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. | Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. |
| If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless. | Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. |
