| Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. | Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and about the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment. |
| But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. | But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. |
| And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. | Now Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent over double, and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your sickness.” And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she stood up straight again, and began glorifying God. But the synagogue leader, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response, “There are six days during which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day.” But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites, does each of you on the Sabbath not untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to water it? And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this restraint on the Sabbath day?” And as He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him. |
| And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. | I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. |
| And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. | And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. |
| Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. | Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord. |
| The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? | The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? |
| Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine. | Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine. |
| My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? | My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God? |
| Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. | Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God. |
| All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. | All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work. |
| And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. | Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins by calling on His name. |
| The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. | The Lord is near to all who call on Him, To all who call on Him in truth. |
| How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. | How much more valuable then is a person than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. |
| He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. | The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. |
| Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. | Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. |
| And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. | In addition to all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. |
| For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God? | For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? |
| But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. | But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. |
| A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. | A prudent person sees evil and hides himself; But the naive proceed, and pay the penalty. |
| Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. | Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fertile field, And the fertile field is considered as a forest. |
| For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God? | For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? |
| For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. | For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God. |
