I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. | I am coming quickly! Hold firmly that which you have, so that no one takes your crown. |
But test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. | Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. Abstain from every form of evil. |

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. | Let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful. |
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. | For I, Yahweh your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I will help you.’ |
We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. | For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence firm to the end. |
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. | Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses. |
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. | You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God; for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name. |
It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. | You shall walk after Yahweh your God, fear him, keep his commandments, and obey his voice. You shall serve him, and cling to him. |
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. | Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good. |
Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues. | In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely. |
Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” | Jesus said to her, “Don’t hold me, for I haven’t yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” |
Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues. | Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning. |
If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. | Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment. |
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. | Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still. |
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. | Now I declare to you, brothers, the Good News which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold firmly the word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. |
But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. | Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. |
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. | Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions. |
All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing. | There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don’t withhold. |
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. | Do all things without complaining and arguing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, holding up the word of life. |
Hear my prayer, Lord, listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my weeping. I dwell with you as a foreigner, a stranger, as all my ancestors were. | Hear my prayer, Yahweh, and give ear to my cry. Don’t be silent at my tears. For I am a stranger with you, a foreigner, as all my fathers were. |
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” | Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” |
When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. | When I said, “My foot is slipping!” Your loving kindness, Yahweh, held me up. |
Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end. | A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control. |
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. | Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. |
The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him. | Yahweh is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who take refuge in him. |
