And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! | And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. |
But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! | If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. |
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. | Let’s not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary. |
Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. | If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit as well. |
No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. | No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God remains in us, and His love is perfected in us. |
For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. | For we have become partakers of Christ if we keep the beginning of our commitment firm until the end. |
So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. | If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. |
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. | But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. |
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. | If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. |
I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. | I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly. |
For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful. If you return to him, he will not continue to turn his face from you. | For the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him. |
But from there you will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him. | But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. |
But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. | But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be in dread. |
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. | If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. |
Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me. | If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. |
Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. | By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another. |
There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? | In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. |
If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. | For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up! |
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. | That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. |
Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. | Take care that no one deceives himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. |
Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.” | And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen.” |
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. | If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless. |
Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have. | For if the willingness is present, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. |
In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short. | Know that wisdom is the same for your soul; If you find it, then there will be a future, And your hope will not be cut off. |
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? | For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul? |
