| That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. | I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death. | That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death. |
| The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! | For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. |
| And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. | Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. | Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. | I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live. | But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sakes. |
| For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.
