| If anyone is rich in worldly possessions and sees a brother in need but refuses to open his heart, how can the love of God abide in him? | But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him? |
| The way of God is blameless, and the Lord’s promise proves true; he is a shield to all who flee to him for safety. | As for God, his way is perfect. Yahweh’s word is tried. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him. |

When he lies, he speaks in accord with his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. | You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. |
| For it has been granted you not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for him. | Because it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf. |
| Then Jesus said to those Jews who did believe in him, “If you remain faithful to my word, you will truly be my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” | Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.
