Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. | Let love of the brothers and sisters continue. Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord; may your love and faithfulness always protect me. | You, Lord, will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your mercy and Your truth will continually watch over me. |
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. | And when you are praying, do not use thoughtless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. |
Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. | If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless. |
