- Their eyes were opened and they realized that they were naked. They took fig leaves and sewed them together, making themselves a covering.
- Blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and whose hope is the Lord.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that spreads out its roots to the stream.
When the heat comes, it does not fear;
its leaves stay green.
It is not concerned in a year of drought,
and it never fails to bear fruit. - The Lord God then formed a woman out of the rib that he had taken from the man. He brought her before the man.
The man said,
“This one is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh.
She shall be called woman
because she was taken from man.”
This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and joins with a wife, and the two become one flesh. - But from the very beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh.’ And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.
- He replied, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said: ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh’? And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
- Such godly sorrow results in repentance that leads to salvation and causes no regret, whereas worldly sorrow produces death.
- For this reason
a man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.
May the Lord, our God, be with us, just as he was with our fathers; may he not leave us or abandon us. Then he said to them, “Go forth into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to all creation.”Next verse! With image
